Columbus and Ohio Housing Markets Remain Hot, Hot, Hot

It’s looking like another record year for home sales in Columbus, Ohio. There were 2,362 central Ohio homes and condos sold in March 2016, a 46.7 percent gain over February and a 6.3 increase over 2015, according to the Columbus REALTORS® Multiple Listing Service.

“The central Ohio real estate market continues to be as active and as good as we have seen in recent years, and March was no exception,” said 2016 Columbus REALTORS® President John Royer. “Buyers are not wasting any time committing themselves to the purchase of a new home.”

Demand continued to outstrip supply. Even with over 3,500 homes placed on the market in March, inventory continued its downward trend, falling 21 percent from a year ago to 5,297.

Royer said the lack of inventory isn’t discouraging buyers from trying to find their next home. “And we expect inventory to continue to rise as we head into the spring and summer months,” he said.

The Ohio housing market also looks bright. According to the Ohio Association of Realtors. The number of single-family homes and condominiums put under contract in March 2016 hit a new record for the month, increasing 9.8 percent from 2015.

“The Ohio housing marketplace is continuing to exhibit tremendous strength, as the number of homes put under contract in March reached an all-time high for the month and marks our 23^rd consecutive monthly year-over-year gain,” said OAR President Sara Calo. “The industry is hopeful that the momentum that’s been established during the first quarter of 2016 will continue as we move forward.”
