More people are moving to Columbus than any other city in the Northeast or Midwest (other than New York), according to the U.S. Census. More than 12,000 people have moved to Ohio’s capital city since 2013, making it the 13th-fastest-growing U.S. city.
Overall, Columbus ranks as the 15th most populous city in America, with 835,957 residents. The larger Columbus Metro area comes in just under the 2 million mark. The metro area has gained nearly 100,000 residents since the last census.
Why are so many people flocking to Columbus? In an NPR interview, city development Steve Schoeny said the city is full of employers and college graduates who don’t leave town.
“…you have companies looking to attract the new generation of workforce,” Schoeny said. “When they’re already here, it’s much easier to get people to stay than have to attract them from other places.”
