Are you moving to the Columbus, OH, area? If you’ve got your family in tow, get ready for fun. This Ohio city has many options for families with young kiddos and teens alike. Here, we’ve rounded up the top five family fun experiences when you get settled in your new Columbus home.
1. COSI–333 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio
COSI is a seemingly never-ending science center for kids in the heart of Columbus. From math to engineering to health, COSI leaves no stone unturned when it comes to areas of interest for little Einsteins. Exhibits change regularly, so take your kids back often to see the latest. If your kids love their time at COSI, chat with the front desk about purchasing a seasonal membership. No matter how often you visit, make sure your kids get a ticket to ride the 60-foot unicycle on a tightrope over COSI’s entryway for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
2. Scioto Mile–Along the Scioto Riverside
Look for a free and fun idea to get you and your kiddos moving for the day? Then, head down to the Scioto Mile in Columbus to check out parks, a splash pad, and (if you’re lucky) outdoor concerts. The Riverfront area offers plenty of recreation opportunities, so feel free to bring scooters, rollerblades, bikes, and Frisbees–whatever your little ones like to play with when they can enjoy a gorgeous outdoor scene.
3. Columbus Zoo & Aquarium–4850 Powell Road, Powell, Ohio
No matter the time of year, animal lovers will have a great time at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium. The Zoo is divided to represent world regions, allowing visitors to imagine that they’re world travelers, enjoying the sights and sounds of animals around the globe. Be sure to check out the rhinos in the Asia section of the zoo and the gorillas in the Congo area.
4. Slate Run Living Historical Farm–1375 State Route 674 North, Canal Winchester, Ohio
Located just on the edge of Columbus, this working farm operates the same way farms ran over 100 years ago. Kids can enjoy hanging with animals (be sure to check out the pigs and the chickens) and participating in the daily chores necessary to make the farm run smoothly. Once you’ve visited the farm, be sure to stop back at another time of year, as the events available for kids change with the seasons.
5. Franklin Park Conservatory–1777 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio
Nature lovers, unite–the Franklin Park Conservatory is one of the few attractions that allow you to experience every biome under one roof. In addition to exploring a beautiful, expansive butterfly garden, Franklin Park visitors can walk through large enclosed spaces that fully encompass each biome. They have left out no detail in the Franklin Park biomes, from temperature to plants to nature sounds. Be sure to stop by the gift shop to check out some fun, nature-themed items to help your kiddos bring the science of the Conservatory back home.
