We were excited to take part in this year’s Bobcat Booster Ox Roast September 8 to 10. This annual tradition is the biggest fundraiser for Grandview Heights Schools, raising about $20,000.
The event took place Thursday evening through Saturday evening at Pierce Field on Northwest Boulevard & First Avenue in the Grandview Heights suburb of Columbus.
This year’s Ox Roast featured 2,000 pounds of beef slow roasted in a pit. The traditional lighting of the pit took place after the Grandview Heights High School football team’s home game against Whitehall-Yearling. The meat roasted overnight before being served on Saturday. Other festival foods included chicken, burgers, brats, hot dogs, fish, fries and onion rings. Sweet treats ranged from pies and cakes to funnel cakes and ice cream.
In addition to great food, the event offered carnival rides, midway games and live music. Adults tested their luck and skills in the Texas Hold ‘Em Poker and Bingo tents.
Such a huge event requires a lot of logistical support. Herlihy Moving & Storage was happy to provide Mayflower Portable Storage Units (PODS) and a truck with lift gate to move supplies to and from Giant Eagle over the three days.
The Ox Roast is organized by the Bobcat Boosters, which promotes athletic, scholastic, extra-curricular and recreational programs and related activities of the youth attending Grandview Heights Public Schools.
