Herlihy Moving & Storage was proud to move the collected works of legendary underground cartoonist Jay Lynch from a home in Candor, New York to the world’s largest collection of comic art in Columbus, Ohio.
Lynch, who sometimes signs his works Jayzey, is a central figure in the underground comix movement. He is the creator and editor of Bijou Funnies as well as a frequent guest contributor to Mad magazine. For the Topps Company, Lynch contributed to the popular Bazooka Joe, Garbage Pail Kids and Wacky Packages series. He is also the author of children’s books for the TOON Books series published by Francoise Mouly.
The collection not only documents Lynch’s career, but also provides insights into the underground comix movement, contemporary satire and popular culture of the past half century.
Our Columbus moving team carefully packed up nearly 1,400 cubic feet of original art, comics, correspondence, magazines, comic-related merchandise and other files that weighed almost 10,000 pounds. After packing, we transported the papers and other effects to their new home in Columbus.
After the move was complete, our customer contact wrote that he was pleased with how the Herlihy moving team handled these cultural treasures.
“Great job in helping without a lot of time and information on this move,” he said. “You made a quick, unexpected move seemed easy. The movers were great!”
He said everyone on the Herlihy team was courteous and efficient. “I definitely would recommend,” he added.
