Moving a Vintage British Phone Booth from Columbus to Bexley, Ohio
Posted By: herlihywp Comments: 0 Categories: UncategorizedThe cherry-red telephone box has become a much-cherished symbol of Britain, in use since 1924. Since British Telecom began decommissioning and selling the classic structures in the 1980s, a few have even found their way across the pond. At least one made it to central Ohio. A Columbus-area couple recently entrusted Herlihy Moving & Storage with the task of moving their bit of British history from the back yard of their German Village home to a new home in Bexley.
Before the one-ton booth could be moved, the foundation had to be jack-hammered out. The garage door and its frame had to be removed before our six-man team could carefully tilt the booth on its side and take it through the garage to the street. We then used a forklift and lift-gated truck equipped with air ride to transport the booth safely to Bexley.
The classic red structure is resting at the new residence pending some landscape work. Our team will return when the landscaping is complete to set the booth on its new foundation.
